Reading Old/Historic Mine Workings

Based on Site Visitsand geology/mining knowledge of Keith Goode:(4 to 5 yrs mining u/g; 11 yrs analysis shaft access u/g, 12yrs opencut analysis, ~25yrs Eagle Research Advisory / ERA; – ie 100s of mines and exploration property visits)

Background

    • Has often been stated, old timers could go to an area and appraise what they are looking for.
    • I think it’s true – but it has taken me numerous site visits, especially under Eagle Research, & tying in underground knowledge based on accessing by shafts, to gradually understand what can be seen on a visit.
    • Hence this presentation to pass on knowledge that could be useful in the field – plus possibly where to examine/find historical details etc beforehand.
    • I wrote a Paydirt article on this subject in June 2017 as shown – this presentation is an elaboration, including further experience, namely:
    • After Preparation, there are 3 main aspects to focus on
    • Straight lines and Divining
    • Walking the Pits
    • Examining any Shafts and Stopes, and Other
